The American Diabetes Association (ADA), the nation's leading non-profit
health organization providing diabetes research, information and
advocacy, is hiring for the position of Manager, Federal Government
Affairs. The Manager provides day-to-day political and legislative
support for ADA to achieve its advocacy goals by helping to implement
the federal priorities and legislative agenda.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Individual will serve as a liaison for ADA on Capitol Hill, with the
Administration and with appropriate federal agencies.
- Consult with the Director, Federal Government Affairs to ensure
cohesion and continuity of the advocacy agenda.
- Help identify emerging policy issues related to diabetes in
coordination with Director, Federal Government Affairs and policy
department to develop appropriate position statements, responses and
overall lobbying strategies.
- Draft testimony, letters and position the Association to obtain
participatory opportunities on Capitol Hill.
- Coordinate lobbying efforts and events with the grassroots team and
communications department.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key Members of Congress and
staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree, plus 3-5 years of Capitol Hill or
federal agency experience.
- Strong familiarity with the legislative process, including experience
with Federal Appropriations and/or scientific research issues.
- Knowledge in the health care arena
- Strong communication, negotiation, time management, and
problem-solving skills.
- Outgoing, personable and professional demeanor.
- Ability to provide creative and strategic solutions.
- Transportation to and from Alexandria and Capitol Hill.
