Director of Government Relations | Children's Medical Center | Dallas, TX

Director of Governmental Relations

Job Summary: Responsible for developing strategies to proactively advocate on behalf of Children's Medical Center in the local and state legislative and regulatory arenas; support activities at the federal level; defend against legislative and regulatory threats; and support development of sound public policy positions that support the hospital's business objectives.

Essential Functions:
  • Create and implement state-focused advocacy, legislative, political, regulatory and grassroots programs to advance and defend Children's business goals and reputation in the political environment. Support similar efforts at the local and federal levels, if needed.
  • Support formulation of health policy positions on issues of key importance in meeting the goals in the areas of patient care, research and teaching.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with elected officials to proactively shape public policy impacting health care, as well as with key opinion leaders and third-party endorsers.
  • Manage relationships with assigned industry trade associations, to ensure that Children's Medical Center's issues are a priority and that appropriate staff are nominated/selected to serve on association boards, committees, tasks forces, work groups.

Position Requirements:
  • Four to five years of previous related work experience in a legislative or public policy position.
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Graduate or professional work or advanced degree preferred; or equivalent experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Exemplary communication skills (verbal and written) and outstanding relationship-building skills
  • Ability to effectively network among elected officials at the local, state and federal levels, as well as targeted civic and community leaders.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change
  • Ability to collaborate with or lead multi-disciplinary teams.
